Douglas Caperton, 75, of Savannah, died Wednesday, June 3, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tenn.
He was born in Hardin County, the son of the late Lonnie Elmer and Lantie Katherine Rinks Caperton. He was united in marriage to Josephine Morgan, who survives.
Mr. Caperton was a ferry operator for the Hardin County Highway Department. He attended Russell Chapel Church.
Services were held on Friday, June 5, at 1 p.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah, with Gerald Caperton officiating. Burial was in the Memory Gardens at Savannah.
In addition to his wife, Josephine of Savannah, he is survived by one son, Gerald Caperton of Savannah; and two daughters, Becky Matlock and Lesia Caperton, both of Savannah; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one brother, Wesley Caperton of Savannah; and three sisters, Pat Prince, Shelby Higgins and Barbara Easley, all of Savannah.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, William Robert Caperton and Elmer Caperton Jr.; and four sisters, Hautie Fielder, Louise Blount, Lena Blount and Inez Caperton.
