Christine Holt (9-07-09) services 9-10-09

Laura Christine Stricklin Holt, born March 13, 1921, peacefully departed this life on Monday, Sept. 7, at the Savannah Health Care Nursing Home. Mrs. Holt was a long-time resident of Savannah, and worked as a sales clerk at Sherman's Department Store and the Cotton Patch for 30 years. She was a devout Christian and a member of the Savannah Church of Christ. Mrs. Holt is survived by son, Jerry Holt (Kathleen) of Monroeville, Ala.; son, Marion Holt (Clara Ruth) of Savannah; and a nephew, Robert Earl Walker of Savannah, whom she referred to as her "third son." She also leaves 11 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; sister, Willie Mae McGee (Floyd) of Florence, Ala.; brother, George W. Stricklin (Katie) of Nashville; and several nieces and nephews and their children. Christine was united in marriage to James Jackson Holt on Aug. 24, 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Arthur O. and Lessie Sherrill Stricklin; sister, Mabel Stricklin Walker; daughter-in-law, Brenda Johnson Holt; and granddaughter, Stacy Holt. The funeral service, officiated by Jim Chamlee, will be held at Shackelford's Funeral Home today, Thursday, Sept. 10, with burial in the Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Tim Holt, John Holt, Wayne Holt, Scott Smotherman, Mac Matthews and Chad Thompson. The family wishes to express special thanks to Savannah Health Care for their kindness and care for almost five years.
