Charlie Layton (4-17-09) services 4-21-09

Charlie Layton, 91, of Counce, died Friday, April 17, at the Southern Magnolia Estates in Iuka, Miss. He was born in Hardin County, the son of the late Alfred Carl and Alma Pearl Meeks Layton. He was united in marriage to Annie Ruth Byrd, who survives. Mr. Layton was an electrician for TVA. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Al Chymia Shrine Temples and the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electricial Workers). Services were held on Tuesday, April 21, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Rev. Merl Dixon officiating. Burial was in the White Sulphur Cemetery at Pickwick Dam. In addition to his wife, Annie Ruth Layton of Counce, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth of Counce and Larry Layton of Corinth, Miss.; two daughters, Carolyn Horton of Corinth, Miss. and Brenda McGivern of Demopolis, Ala.; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Layton of Counce. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Beatrice Surratt and Mary Hurley; and one brother, Eugene Layton.
