Robert "Bob" Zavala, 90, of Savannah, died Monday, Sept. 28, at the Hardin Medical Center in Savannah.
He was born in Wiergate, Texas, the son of the late Macedonio and Ladislada Munoz Zavala. He was united in marriage to Ruby Lee Perkins, who preceded him in death. He was later united in marriage to Nancy Morris, who survives.
Mr. Zavala retired from the United States Navy after 21 years where he was a diesel engineer. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mr. Zavala also retired from St. Jude Children’s Hospital and John Gaston Hospital.
Services were held on Friday, Oct. 2, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Thomas Kirk officiating. Burial was in the Savannah Cemetery.
In addition to his wife, Nancy of Savannah, he is survived by one daughter, Sherry Zavala of Silsbee, Texas; two sons, Robert Zavala of Victoria, Texas and Scott Zavala of Vidor, Texas; two stepsons, Terry and Gene Dickerson, both of Savannah; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Maria Lopez of Oxnard, Calif.; and one brother, Raymond Zavala of Beaumont, Texas.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Jesse, John, Cecil, Felix and Martin Zavala.
