Bill Gattis (9-16-09) services 9-21-09

Bill Gattis, 83, of Ft. Smith, Ark., formerly of Savannah, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, in his home. He was the son of J.V. and Ethel Brown Gattis. He was united in marriage to Lucile Watson, who survives. He was a tractor-trailer driver and bull dozer operator for Forsgren Construction. He was a an Army veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the DAV, VFW, and American Legion Ellig Stouffer Post 31. Service were held Monday, Sept. 21, at Ocker Putman Funeral Home in Ft. Smith with burial and military honors at the U. S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith. He is survived by his wife, Lucile Gattis; three daughters, Doris Lowrance of Ooltewah, Tenn., Linda DeLaet of Alma, and Marsha Smith of Alexander; a sister, Alta Bryson of Savannah; two brothers, Harry Gattis of Savannah, and Charles Gattis of Adamsville; several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Ruth, Millie, Kitty and Pat; and brothers, Sherrill and Carl; and one grandson.
