Arthur Wilkerson (5-15-09) services 5-17-09

Arthur Wilkerson was born in Lutts, Tenn. on Aug. 27, 1924, the son of the late Frank (Tinte) and Lizzie Cummings Wilkerson. Mr. Wilkerson had worked for Hassell’s Lumber Company, Angelica and as a farmer. He liked to hunt, farm, and be around people. He attended church on Sundays at Park Rest Nursing Home and was baptized at Soul’s Harvest Church. He had lived in the Old Town Community and the Turkey Creek Community. Mr. Wilkerson departed this life at the Hardin County Nursing Home on Friday, May 15, at the age of 84 years, 8 months, 18 days. Mr. Wilkerson is survived by his former wife, Ruby Benson Dennis; two sons, Dennis Wilkerson and wife Mary Ann, Daniel (Pete) Wilkerson and wife Judy all of Savannah; three daughters, Margaret Benson and husband Jerry, Mary Frazier and husband Danny, all of Savannah, Irene Hurley and husband Billy Jo of Stantonville, Tenn.; a sister, Ollie Franks of Savannah; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilkerson was preceded in death by a son, James Wilkerson; three brothers, Bill, Lank and Ed Wilkerson; a sister, Susie Wilkerson; three grandchildren. Services were held on Sunday, May 17, at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah with Bobby Pickens, Ricky Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Wilkerson Cemetery at Hardin County.
