Maria "Nekole" Delashmit

Maria Nekole Delashmit was born in Memphis, Tenn., on April 28, 1972. She passed away unexpectedly on March 3, at the age of 36 from a tragic accident in Memphis. As a little child, Nekole was always filled with spunk and loved playing sports, especially softball, and she loved to cook. Nekole was true to herself no matter where she was or what she was doing. She was a genuine person who loved many things in life, but most of all, her family and friends and her pets. When she was in a room, her presence filled that room and her laughter enlivened the room. All her life she was known as Nekole, Nikki or Nick, to all those who knew and loved her. She was loved by everyone around her and was taken so suddenly. Nekole had many roles in life. She was a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a niece, a cousin, and friend. Those Nekole left behind are her mother Donna Brock Delashmit, formerly from Savannah, and her father and step-mother, Rick and Teresa Delashmit, all of Olive Branch, Miss., and her grandmother, Frances Delashmit of Covington. She also leaves behind her brothers, Kevin of Millington, Cory (wife Bonnie) of Olive Branch, and half-brothers, Jeremy and Jesse Delashmit of Olive Branch. Nekole truly loved her nephews and nieces and was always there to babysit and play with them. They are Delis (6), Dutch (4), and twins Daire and Darcie (1), the children of Cory and Bonnie Delashmit. She also leaves her aunts and uncles from Savannah, Jimmy and Wanda Brock Broyles and Freddie and Debbie Brock. Nekole will also be missed by her cousins, Sonja Broyles Williams, Misty Brock Dicus, and Nick Brock, all of Savannah. Nekole was preceded in death by her uncles, Mark and Robert Delashmit from Covington; her maternal grandparents, Melon and Daisy Brock from Savannah; and her paternal grandparents, Hayes and Marie Delashmit from Covington. Nekole also leaves behind a large family and a host of friends who will miss her very much. Nekole had a heart of pure gold and would go out of her way to help anyone in need. She was known to rescue dogs and cats and if needed, nurse them back to health and then provide a good home for them. Nekole was a generous soul who gave endlessly and asked for nothing in return. As a final expression of Nekole’s selflessness, she was an Organ Donor who donated all her organs to others so they could live a full and productive life. We have learned that four children and three adults received Nekole’s organs. The true spirit of faith in God was embodied in Nekole who continues to live with us today by her priceless gift of life for others. Nekole, we love and miss you so much. Now you can finally rest in peace. The family requests all memorials be directed to the Nekole Delashmit Scholarship Fund for her nieces and nephews at BankPLus, 8990 Pigeon Roost Rd., Olive Branch, MS 38654. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 14, at 2:00 in the afternoon at Twin Oaks Funeral Home, 290 Goodman Rd., Southaven, Miss. 38671. All family and friends are invited to join us for a celebration of life honoring Maria Nekole Delashmit.
