Loretta Smith

Loretta Bernadette Eckman Smith, 64, of Savannah, died Monday, Dec. 15, at Jackson Madison County Hospital. She was born in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of the late Charles Otto and Ruby Marie Martin Eckman. Mrs. Smith was a towboat cook on the riverboat, and was of Pentecostal faith. Services were held Thursday, Dec. 18, at Shackelford Funeral Directors, Waynes-boro with Joe Jones officiating. Burial was in Prater's Chapel Cemetery at Clifton. Arrangements by Shackel-ford Funeral Directors of Wayne County. She is survived by two sons, Lytle Charles and Igoe Smith, both of Clifton; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Dwaine Eckman of Clifton; and two sisters, Lennie Elizabeth Prater of Clifton and Elaine Louella Smith of Savannah. She was preceded in death by brothers, Edward Sexton, Donald Sexton, Jack Sexton and Kenneth Eckman; and a sister, Gladys Sexton Maurer.
