Gladys Mae Deaton
Gladys Mae Deaton was born in Lauderdale County, Ala., on Oct. 11, 1915, the daughter of the late Charlie and Ethel Higgins White.
On June 7, 1936, she was united in marriage to James Harold Deaton, who preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 2006.
In addition to Lauderdale County, Mrs. Deaton had lived in Mississippi, Henderson and Savananh, Tenn. She operated a grocery store and cafe with her husband for six years. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, and was a member of the Missionary Baptist.
Mrs. Deaton departed this life in Savannah, on Wednesday, Dec. 24, at the age of 93 years, 2 months, 13 days.
Mrs. Deaton is survived by a daughter, Linda Banks of Savannah; a grandchild, Stacy Grisham; a great-grandchild, Levi Casteel.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Deaton was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur White and a grandchild, Jeremy Stephen Sweat.
Services were held on Dec. 27, at 1 p.m., at House of Prayer in Clifton, with Rev. Tommy Grisham officiating. Burial was in the Bumpus Creek Cemetery at Waterloo, Ala.
