Arvie Kennedy

Arvie Kennedy was born in Hardin County on Jan. 6, 1915, the daughter of the late Colby C. and Callie Elizabeth English Alexander. On May 18, 1935, she was united in marriage to Orville D. Kennedy, who preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 1987. In addition to Hardin County, Mrs. Kennedy had also lived in Memphis for 38 years, Sardis from 1978 until 2000 when she moved to Baytown, Texas. For 20 years she worked as a U.S. Government Inspector for the U.S. Depot in Memphis and for Union Planters Bank as a filing clerk for 13 years. Mrs. Kennedy enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Ohio and Florida. She was a member of Marl Bluff Presbyterian, Hope Sunday School Class, and First Baptist Church of Baytown, Texas. She enjoyed doing volunteer work at Star Reading Lab at Harlem Elementary, visiting with the sick and bed ridden at her church in Baytown, Texas and working with stray animals. She had a strong will and was very determined. Mrs. Kennedy departed this life in Baytown, Texas on Monday, Dec. 22, at the age of 93 years, 11 months, 16 days. Mrs. Kennedy is survived by four grandchildren: Dianna Houston and her husband Larry, Gerald Lee Kennedy Jr., John Michael Kennedy and wife Kristi, Scott Patrick Kennedy and wife Shelly; two great-grandchildren: Kaitlin A. Kennedy and Eric A. Kennedy. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Kennedy was preceded in death by a son: Gerald Lee Kennedy; a daughter-in-law: Paula E. Saffer Kennedy; a sister: Artie Anglin; and two brothers, Services was held on Dec. 30, at 10 a.m., at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah, with Bob Henry officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park at Memphis.
