Measure to protect employers allowing guns
A measure that protects employers who allow guns to be carried in their workplace from frivolous complaints is headed to the governor for his consideration. The proposal sponsored by Republican Rep. Vance Dennis of Savannah passed the House 82-8 on Thursday. The Senate approved the companion bill 30-1 last month.
Republican Gov. Bill Haslam is expected to review the proposal once it reaches his desk.
The proposal states that an employer allowing a person with a handgun permit to carry a weapon on the employer’s property “does not constitute an occupational safety and health hazard to the employees.’’
Sponsors say they want to protect employers who fail to post a prohibition against guns from frivolous complaints that may arise from employees.
