Study: Health reform will save Tennesseans $2.7 billion
A new study concluded that health care reform will save Tennesseans $2.7 billion on health insurance. The study found that an estimated 664,100 Tennesseans will become eligible for premium tax credits once reform is in place in 2014. Those credits will be available to a family of four with a maximum income of $88,200 a year. But because the program works on a sliding scale, most of the actual dollars from the credits will go to those making a maximum of $44,100 a year for a family of four.
The credits will go directly to the family’s health insurance premiums.
The Commercial Appeal reported the results of the study by Families USA, a liberal-leaning health care advocacy group.
The study found that about 56 percent of those eligible for the cuts will be insured. Of those, 37 percent will have insurance through an employer.
