State gets extra $3.9 million for food program
Tennessee has been awarded $3.9 million in extra federal funds for providing nutritional assistance.U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the bonus award for how the state administered Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits in 2009.
Tennessee was cited with four other states and the District of Columbia for best access to the program. The other states were Maine, Oregon, Vermont and Alaska.
The $3.9 million was among $18 million in bonus awards to selected states.
