Flooding delays process of setting execution date
A man convicted in an 1987 murder and kidnapping is getting more time to respond to Tennessee wanting to set his execution date because of the state’s flooding.Stephen Michael West has until May 24 to file his response to the state asking the Tennessee Supreme court to set his execution date.
West was convicted in Union County in 1987 of the murder and kidnapping of Wanda Romines and her daughter Sheila.
The U.S. Supreme Court refused in March to review the case.
West asked the court to extend his 10-day window to respond by two weeks due to the flooding. The state did not object, so the state Supreme Court gave him more time.
