DUI ignition lock device bill advancing in House
A proposal that would require offenders charged with drunken driving to have ignition locking devices installed in their vehicles if they have a blood alcohol level of 0.15 is advancing in the House. The measure sponsored by Republican Rep. Tony Shipley of Kingsport was approved on a voice vote in the House Budget Subcommittee on April 28. The companion bill passed the Senate 31-0 earlier in the month.
A stricter proposal that would require the devices for a blood alcohol level of 0.08 was placed behind the budget by the panel on Wednesday. It will be revisited if any money is left after the state’s spending plan is set.
The companion to that measure, which is supported by Mothers Against Drunk Driving in Tennessee, has been withdrawn from consideration in the Senate.
