The uncle of a teenager shot to death in Jackson says he hopes other youths don’t get trapped in gang activity.
Donald Woods commented after 21-year-old Ledarren Hawkins was convicted in the January 2009 death of 19-year-old Jerome Ellington, Woods’ nephew. Hawkins testified that he joined the Bloods gang about five years ago.
According to The Jackson Sun, the shooting happened after a fight broke out between two groups.
Hawkins was convicted March 31 of first-degree murder, which carries an automatic life sentence. There were three days of testimony.
