Violence ends free Tuesdays at Memphis Zoo in March
There will be no more free Tuesdays in March at the Memphis Zoo.The decision was made after shots were fired and fights broke out in Overton Park following last Tuesday’s free day. The free Tuesday program will continue the other 11 months of the year.
Zoo officials also put other new policies in place, including barring anyone 16 or younger from entering on free days without an adult age 21 or older.
Tuesday’s troubles started when the zoo closed at 5 p.m. but the overflow crowd stayed nearby.
The zoo had set a single-day attendance record of 25,314 people, spurred by the free admission and spring break.
