Attorney General plans to appeal gun ruling
The state Attorney General’s office plans to appeal a judge’s ruling that overturned a law allowing people with handgun permits to be armed in bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.WPLN-FM reported that the notice of the appeal was filed Dec. 22. Chancellor Claudia Bonnyman said in November that the law, enacted earlier this year over the veto of Gov. Phil Bredesen, was unconstitutionally vague.
The attorney general’s office said in a statement that they still believe that the statute is “legally defensible,’’ but that the legislature may take action that will moot the appeal.
