Athletes of the Year

Steven Rich

Steven Rich was named HCHS’s Athlete of the Year, and he hopes to become a teacher and coach in the future. He was a key player on the school’s football team and earned much recognition for his play. As a senior, Rich had 104 solo tackles, 60 assists, 13 tackles for a loss, four sacks, four blocked kicks, and one interception for a touchdown. He was also a threat on the offensive side of the ball, totaling 175 rushing yards, 403 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns. Rich was named All-District First Team, District Defensive MVP, and All-West Tennessee First Team. He also received Best Linebacker, Most Valuable Teammate, the Don Price Award, and District All- Academic Team. As a junior, Rich was All-District First Team, All-West Tennessee Junior of the Year, and All State First Team. He also received Best Linebacker Award for the Tigers. Rich believes he was successful in part because of his strong work ethic. “Play with character, and set goals,” he advises younger athletes. He recently signed to play football for Austin Peay University. He is the son of Randal and Alice Rich.

Hannah Robinson

Lady Tiger Hannah Robinson was named Athlete of the Year for her career in basketball. She was also a valuable member of the cross country and track teams during her sophomore and junior years. Robinson was chosen as her basketball team’s MVP during both her junior and senior years, and she was district MVP for her performance this season. She also won Best Rebounder for three seasons and was Best Teammate last year. She was selected All-District and All-Tournament for two consecutive years, and she made All- Academic this year. She was also named to the first team of the Jackson Sun All-West Tennessee Girls Basketball Team. She was voted Most Athletic and Miss Basketball by her peers. In addition to her busy athletic schedule, Robinson was president of the National Honor Society and was on the executive committee of Just Say No. She was on the Student Council and was a member of the Hardin County Vols and the Go Green Club. Robinson was also active with her youth group at Graham Chapel C.M.E. Church. The daughter of Paul and Anna Robinson, she plans to attend Bethel University and major in chemistry to eventually become an allergist/immunologist. She has verbally committed to play basketball for the school. Robinson values the time she spent with athletics but was able to keep her priorities in order. “Sports are fun, and they teach you a lot about life and relationships; however, to succeed you must remember that there are more important things in life than sports,” she said.

Will Erwin

Will Erwin is Adamsville High School’s male Athlete of the Year. Erwin was a valuable contributor in both baseball and basketball. He was named All-District, All-Region, and All-State in baseball as a junior. He was also selected All- Tournament this year in basketball. He believes that perseverance was the key to his success and advises younger players to never quit in anything. Erwin was also selected as a member of the Farmers and Merchants Bank Hall of Fame. After graduation, Erwin plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin to major in health and human performance. He hopes to play baseball for the school. He is the son of Max and Ginger Erwin.

Corrie Hill

Corrie Hill was the Athlete of the Year for the Lady Cardinals. She was a three-sport athlete, excelling in soccer, basketball, and softball. Hill won many awards for her athletic talents. In soccer she was First Team All-District, team MVP, and All-West Tennessee Honorable Mention as a senior. She also earned All-District and MVP honors as a junior. In basketball, she was All-District and Offensive MVP her senior season. She was named All-District and All-Academic as a senior in softball. In addition to her commitments as an athlete, Hill was involved in Beta Club, the Spanish National Honors Society, and Future Teachers of America. She believes it is her love and dedication to sports that enabled her to succeed. “I believe it is important to truly love the sports you play. It is also vital to have confidence. I always take a minute before each game to motivate and calm myself,” she said. She is the daughter of Roger and Kathy Hill. She plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
