Tiger baseball team ends season at district tourney
The Hardin County High School baseball team finished their 2011 campaign in last week’s district tournament. The Tigers finished the season with an overall record of 20-11.The Tigers lost their first contest in last week’s district tournament to Munford. After picking up a 10-0 win over Brighton in game two, the Tigers lost to Dyer County to end their season.
Hardin County had several players receive recognition for their play on the field and their studies in the classroom this year. Barker Burnham, Corey Jerrolds, and Stephen Gobbell were selected as All-District players for the regular season. Burnham and Kendall Adkisson were named to the All-Tournament team. The Tigers also had four seniors selected for the All-Academic team. Seniors J.D. Clausel, Stephen Gobbell, Walker Vaughn, and Hunter Petty were each selected as All-Academic team members.
Munford 5, Tigers 4
Munford scored three runs in the first inning and added one more in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Hardin County rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Barker Burnham had a two-run double in the inning and Kendall Adkisson also helped out with a RBI double. Munford scored the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Corey Jerrolds was charged with the loss for Hardin County.
Tigers 10, Brighton 0
Barker Burnham pitched a shutout in Hardin County’s second game of the district tournament. Burnham was also 2-for-3 at the plate. Kendall Adkisson was 3-for-3 in the game. Jordan Lambert and B.J. Shutt each had a pair of hits for Hardin County. Dillon Rooker added a 2-run home run for the Tigers.
Dyer County 2, Tigers 1
Dyer County scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to end Hardin County’s season. B.J. Shutt was charged with the loss in the game. Shutt only allowed two runs on five hits in his complete game effort.
Barker Burnham was 3-for-3 at the plate for Hardin County. Burnham scored the only run of the game on a RBI double by Dylan Moore.
