Adamsville wins two in district tournament

The Adamsville High School baseball team competed in the District 15-A Tournament last week. The Cardinals won their first game against Scotts Hill. After falling to Trinity Christian Academy in their second game, Adamsville rebounded to pick up a win over South Gibson.

The Cardinals were scheduled to play Madison on Tuesday afternoon. With a victory against Madison, the Cardinals would have advanced to play on Wednesday against either Trinity Christian or Riverside. Adamsville would need victories on Tuesday and Wednesday to reach the championship game on Thursday night. The top two teams in each district advance to region competition. The Cardinals are now 21-11 overall on the season.

Cardinals 17, Scotts Hill 2 (Regular Season)

Adamsville used a 9-run inning in the third to pick up the 15-run victory over Scotts Hill last week. Montell Johnson (4-2) was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals. Kasey Hurley and Zach Robinson also pitched for Adamsville in the game.

Will Erwin, Josh Chappell, John Reed Odom, Drew Griswell, and Hurley each picked up two hits in the game. Chappell scored three runs and had two RBIs. Griswell scored two runs and had two RBIs. Hurley also drove in two runs. Bradley Melton had a 3-run home run in the game.

Cardinals 14, Scotts Hill 0 (District Tournament)

Adamsville scored 11 runs in the third inning and added three more in the fourth to pick up their first win in last week’s district tournament. Drew Griswell (3-3) pitched a two-hit shutout for the Cardinals in the game. Kasey Hurley was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs for Adamsville. Will Erwin and Drew Griswell each picked up two hits for the Cardinals. Erwin scored two runs and had three RBIs.

TCA 10, Cardinals 0 (District Tournament)

The Cardinals were held to only one hit in their loss to TCA in the second game of the district tournament. Montell Johnson (4-3) was charged with the loss on the mound for Adamsville. Josh Chappell picked up the only hit of the game for the Cardinals.

Cardinals 13, South Gibson 3

Adamsville scored four runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings to pick up a 10-run victory over South Gibson on Monday in the district tournament. Kasey Hurley (3-2) was the winning pitcher for Adamsville.

Bradley Melton was 3-for-4 in the game with a 3-run home run. Josh Chappell was 2-for-3 with a 2-run homer. Jalen Kendall and Kasey Hurley each picked up two hits for the Cardinals. John Reed Odom and Jake Martin each had two RBIs for Adamsville in the game.
