Cardinal baseball wins six games
Adamsville High School baseball team had a busy week on the diamond. The Cardinals made the most of their opportunities with six wins in their eight games last week. They now have an overall record of 13-10 and are 4-3 in district play.Cardinals 15, South Gibson 8
Adamsville outscored South Gibson 13-6 over the first four innings to pick up the win last Tuesday. Montell Johnson (2-1) was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals.
Jalen Kendall was the leading hitter for Adamsville with a 4-for-4 day at the plate, including a pair of doubles. Bradley Melton was 2-for-4. Josh Chappell had a 2-run home run. Hunter McSwain and John Reed Odom each had a double in the game.
Cardinals 10, South Gibson 6
Adamsville jumped in front by a score of 6-2 after the first two innings. South Gibson cut the lead to 6-4 in the fourth, but Adamsville responded with three runs to extend the lead to 9-4. South Gibson didn’t get much closer the rest of the way.
Jalen Kendall (1-1) was awarded the victory on the mound. Bradley Melton, Josh Chappell, and Kendall each had two hits. John Reed Odom had a 3-run home run in the game. Chappell connected on a solo home run. Melton and Hunter McSwain each had a double against South Gibson.
Cardinals 19, JCM 0
Adamsville scored 12 runs in the first inning and seven runs in the second to easily defeat JCM last Wednesday. Josh Chappell (2-0) allowed only one hit in two innings of work to pick up the win.
Will Erwin, Bradley Melton, Jalen Kendall, Drew Griswell, Kasey Hurley, and Jacob Wallis each had a hit in the game for Adamsville.
Cardinals 13, Bolivar 1
Adamsville scored 13 runs in the first three innings to record their second 10-run rule victory of the week against Bolivar. Drew Griswell (1-3) was awarded the win on the mound.
Will Erwin was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double for the Cardinals. Hunter McSwain, Bradley Melton, and Jalen Kendall each had two hits. Melton and Jake Martin each hit a 2-run home run in the game.
Chester County 6, Cardinals 4
Chester County rallied for six runs in the final inning to erase a four-run deficit to beat the Cardinals on Friday. Kasey Hurley (1-2) was charged with the loss. Bradley Melton and John Reed Odom each had two hits in the game for the Cardinals.
Hardin County 14, Cardinals 7
Hardin County used an 8-run inning in the fifth to break open a close game in the matchup on Saturday morning. Hardin County led the game 6-5 going into the final inning of play. Montell Johnson (2-2) was charged with the loss. Will Erwin, Bradley Melton, and Jalen Kendall each had two hits in the game. Melton and Kendall each had a home run against Hardin County.
Cardinals 6, Scotts Hill 1
Adamsville did all of their scoring in the final three innings to pick up a win over Scotts Hill on Saturday afternoon. Jake Martin (2-0) was awarded the victory for the Cardinals. Will Erwin was 2-for-4 in the game for Adamsville. Erwin and Josh Burks each picked up a double in the game for the Cardinals.
Cardinals 14, Middleton 1
Adamsville outscored Middleton 13-1 in the first three innings to easily pick up a district victory. Montell Johnson (3-2) was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals. Johnson struck out 10 batters in the game.
Hunter McSwain, Bradley Melton, and Jalen Kendall each picked up two hits in the game. McSwain and Josh Chappell each had a double. Kendall had a double and also picked up an inside-the-park home run. He also finished the game with four RBIs. Jake Martin added three RBIs for the Cardinals offensively.
