Adamsville expects good soccer season

The Adamsville Cardinal soccer program graduated eight seniors last year, leaving coaches Steven Price and Richard White with an inexperienced team. However, they are expecting a good season based on the players’ work ethic and determination in preseason practices. “I expect this team to play very hard and improve every match,” stated Price. “They are a very coachable group. There is a lot of willingness to learn and get better.”

Price also believes his assistant coach is a true asset to the team. This will be the last season that White will serve as a coach for the Cards, although he does plan to remain active with the sport in other roles. “The players really respect him and recognize his experience and knowledge of soccer,” said Price. White has extensive expertise with soccer, having played, coached and served as an official for many years. He has helped both the Cardinal and Lady Cardinal soccer team for several seasons.

With only three returning starters and no seniors, the team’s main weakness will be the lack of experience on the pitch, said Price. He anticipates the teams from TCA, Madison, and McNairy being very tough this season.

There are several players who will be expected to play key roles for the Cardinals. Justin Salazar, Brandon Luna, and Chris Luna will be starting forwards for the team. Dustin Plunk and Christian Yanok will play midfield while Jake Baker, Dustin Sowell, and Jake Weaver will play at halfback. Josh Shoate will man the goalkeeper position, and Price feels that his defensive skills will be a great benefit to the team.

Other Cardinals who will be expected to fill roles for the team are Taylor Alexander, Kirby Brush, Dustin Brewer, Tyler Hollin, and Jack Majors. The team’s first game is scheduled for today (Thursday) at home against Chester County.
