Cardinals reach district title game
The Adamsville Cardinal basketball team defeated South Gibson and Scotts Hill last week to secure a berth in the District 15-A basketball tournament. The Cardinals were scheduled to play Middleton last Tuesday night, but the results weren’t known at press time.The Cardinals defeated South Gibson by a score of 75-57 in the district quarterfinals. They then defeated Scotts Hill by a score of 64-53 in the semifinals. The district finals appearance is the first since 2006 for the Cardinals. The Cardinals won the district tournament that season before losing the region semifinals.
Adamsville will host their region quarterfinal game on Saturday regardless of the result of the Middleton game. The Cardinals will host the three or four-seed from District 16-A. Their tournament was set to conclude on Wednesday night, so the opponent was not known at press time. The Cardinals improved their overall record to 17-8 overall with the two victories last week.
The Lady Cardinals finished their season in last week’s district quarterfinals against South Gibson. Adamsville was defeated by a score of 53-35 in the game. The Lady Cardinals finished the season with an overall record of 8-15.
Although their season ended sooner than he would have liked, Lady Cardinal head coach Todd McGee was proud of the effort put forth by his team this year. “The girls worked really hard on improving their outside shooting and tried to use effort and hustle in order to compete. I would like to thank the seniors for their leadership and guidance. They meant more to this team than will ever be displayed on the scoreboard,” said McGee.
Cardinals 75, South Gibson 57 (District Quarterfinals)
Adamsville outscored South Gibson 35-23 in the second quarter to give them a double-digit lead at halftime. The Cardinals led the contest by a score of 51-37 at the half. Adamsville pushed their lead to 18 points at 65-47 by the end of the third quarter. Jake Martin was the leading scorer for the Cardinals with 19 points. Will Erwin was second in scoring with 14 points. Jacob Hendon scored 12 points, and Kasey Hurley contributed with 10 points. Jalen Kendall helped out with eight points and nine rebounds in the game.

Cardinals 64, Scotts Hill 53 (District Semifinals)
Adamsville outscored Scotts Hill 26-18 over the first two quarters to take an 8-point halftime lead. The Cardinals allowed Scotts Hill to stay close in the final two quarters, but they pulled away in the end to win by 11 points.
Will Erwin was the top scorer for Adamsville with 13 points. Kasey Hurley (12), Jalen Kendall (11), and Jacob Hendon (10) each scored in double figures for the Cardinals. Kendall also pulled down eight rebounds for the Cardinals in the game.

South Gibson 53, Lady Cardinals 35 (District Quarterfinals)
South Gibson outscored Adamsville 22-6 in the final eight minutes to break open a close game in the district quarterfinals last week. The Lady Cardinals had trailed in the game at halftime by a score of 25-18, but rallied back to pull within two points at 31-29 by the end of the third quarter.
Brianne Knight was the leading scorer for Adamsville in the game with 10 points. Corrie Hill and Keantinez Lloyd each scored six points in the game.
