Hardin County loses pair to Brighton

The Hardin County High School basketball teams traveled to Brighton on Friday night for a district matchup on the hardwood. The Lady Tigers lost a close game to Brighton by a score of 41-40. The Tigers lost by a score of 81-49 against the Cardinals.

The Lady Tigers dropped to 12-2 overall and 3-2 in district play. The Tigers fell to 0-14 with the loss.

Brighton 43, Lady Tigers 40

Brighton escaped with a one-point win against Hardin County in a close game on Friday night. The two teams stayed within four points the entire second half with each team swapping the lead several times.

The Lady Cardinals took a 41-37 lead with 1:11 left in the game. Hardin County’s Katie Terry hit two free throws to pull the Lady Tigers to within two points in the final minute. The Lady Tigers connected on one of two free throws in the remaining time. Hardin County couldn’t pull any closer despite several shot attempts in the final seconds. Brighton hit a layup at the buzzer to finish out the scoring in the game.

Brighton led the game 11-6 after the first quarter and held a 22-18 halftime lead. Hardin County outscored Brighton 12-6 in the third quarter to take a 30-28 advantage going into the final quarter. Hannah Robinson was the top scorer for Hardin County with 14 points. Keagan Handley was second in scoring with eight points. Tonisha Combs and Morgan Willoughby each contributed with five points.

Brighton 81, Tigers 49

Brighton led the game 14-10 after the first quarter and pushed their lead to 39-23 by halftime. The Cardinals outscored Hardin County 20-11 in the third quarter and 22-15 in the final quarter to seal the victory.

Jonathan Roach led the Tigers in scoring against Brighton with 12 points. Coty Eanes also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points. Hunter Petty chipped in with eight points.
