Tigers lose to tough Brighton team

Brighton scored the first 14 points of the game and then added to their lead the rest of the way in their 55-7 victory over Hardin County on Friday night. The loss drops the Tigers to 6-2 on the season.

After Brighton scored the first 14 points of the game, Hardin County capitalized on a Cardinal mistake to score a touchdown. Brighton fumbled a punt snap, and Hardin County got the ball on the Cardinal 19-yard line. The Tigers scored on the first play from scrimmage on a 19-yard pass play from Barker Burnham to Coty Eanes.

The momentum was short-lived as Brighton came back on their next possession to get the lead back to 14 points. The Cardinals scored on their third play from scrimmage on a 70-yard pass play. Brighton forced a three-and-out on Hardin County’s next possession and then blocked the punt attempt by Hardin County. The Cardinals turned the Tiger mistake into another score to push their lead to 28-7 in the final minute of the first quarter.

Brighton added two more touchdowns in the second quarter to give them a 41-7 lead at halftime. The Cardinals were able to push across two more scored in the final two quarters to get to the final score of 55-7.

Cardinal quarterback Danny Potter had another big game for Brighton. Potter completed 15-of-24 passes in the game for 286 yards. That improved his season stats to 146-for-240 and his passing yardage total to 2,265. His five touchdown passes in the game was the second time he has accomplished that feat this year.

Hardin County only managed 112 yards of total offense in the game. Burnham completed 4-of-16 passes for 43 yards. Daniel Avila rushed for 76 yards on 16 carries and also completed a 29-yard pass in the game.

Steven Rich led the Tiger defense with 10 total tackles. Josh Ivey and J.D. Clausel each had seven total stops. Jopp Bizzell and Dakotah McFerson each had six total tackles.

Tiger head coach William McAdams wasn’t pleased with the outcome, but also realizes that Hardin County played a very talented team last Friday night. “They’re a good football team. They are what we would expect from a 6A football team. We’re just not at that level right now. Our job is to step it up and get closer to that point. We’re hopeful of making a step in that direction this week,” said McAdams.
