Tiger eighth graders defeat Corinth in OT
The Hardin County Middle School football team picked up a 30-28 victory over Corinth in their eighth grade football game last Tuesday night. The seventh grade team lost by a score of 26-0.The Tigers scored a touchdown in the final minute of the fourth quarter on a 44-yard pass from Trevor Bishop to Timothy Blakney. Blakney also ran in the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 22-22 and send the game to overtime. In the overtime period, Corinth got the ball first and scored a touchdown to take a 28-22 lead. However, Hardin County held them out of the end zone on the two-point conversion.
The Tigers scored on a 6-yard run by Blakney on their first possession of the overtime period. Blakney also ran in the two-point conversion to give them the 30-28 lead.
Hardin County head coach Freddy Essary really praised the play of his offensive line in the game, especially on their final possession. “We really challenged the line just before the play, and they came through for us. Timothy got hit about the one, and he spun off and kept running into the end zone,” said Essary.
The Tigers scored their first touchdown of the game in the opening quarter on a 45-yard run by Blakney. Brandon Luna added the two-point conversion. Bishop added a 25-yard run in the second quarter. Brandon Brannett caught a pass from Bishop for the 2-point conversion.
