Collinwood blanks Cardinals 27-0

Adamsville traveled to Collinwood on Friday night and had a difficult time on the offensive side of the ball. The Trojans scored 12 points in the second quarter to take a 12-0 lead and than added 15 second half points to set the final score at 27-0.

The Cardinals had a total of 128 rushing yards and 106 passing yards in the game. Jamel Sanders led the Cardinals in rushing with 84 yards on 18 carries. Quarterback Bradley Melton completed 11-of-17 passes for 106 yards. Stephen Jackson had three receptions for 43 yards. Dalton Plunk had 25 yards receiving, and John Reed Odom picked up 20 yards on three receptions.

Kameron McDaniel led the Cardinals on defense with 10 total tackles. Jackson was second with eight total stops. Dusty Butler had seven total tackles in the game. Josh Chappell chipped in with six tackles. Adamsville dropped to 3-3 on the season after the loss to Collinwood.

Head coach Brandon Gray was very discouraged by the loss. ““That was probably the hardest game we’ve played in the five years I’ve been coaching. It seemed that if it could go wrong, it happened, and on both sides of the ball. At the same time, if it could go right for them, it did,” he said.

The Cardinals also had several key starters who were not able to play due to injury. “For example, one day last week in practice we put our punt team on the field, and we were missing six starters. It’s tough when you are replacing so many,” he said. “Our young guys are having to step into some new roles.”
