Adamsville junior high captures third county championship

The junior high Cardinal football team won their third consecutive county championship last week when they defeated Bethel Springs 48-0. The Cardinals are undefeated against their county opponents.

“I’m very proud of the team. The first team did a good job of taking control in the first half, and we were able to get a lot of players on the field in the second half. It was a full team effort,” commented head coach Michael Harvill. Bobby Moore scored first for the Cardinals on a 27-yard run, and Logan Barber added the two-point conversion. Matthew Maness struck next for the Cards on a 48-yard run. Barber again added two.

Moore scored his second touchdown of the night on a 56-yard run. The team added two on quarterback Canon Smith’s pass to Maness. Christopher Bernier added another TD after the Cards recovered a Bethel Springs fumble. Bailey Sweat added two on the conversion. Sweat scored for the Cards next, and Moore added two, giving the team a 40-0 lead at the half.

Sidney Goldinger scored the team’s final TD, and Trevor Reece rushed for the conversion.

Seventh grader Moore led the team on offense with 113 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Maness added 48 yards, and Bernier and Barber rushed for 34 yards.

Cameron Cline led the Cardinals on defense with five tackles and a fumble recovery. Moore had four take-downs, and Sweat and Parmely each had three.
