Tigers end Cards perfect season

The Hardin County Middle School Tigers ended the Adamsville Cardinals’ dreams of a second undefeated season last week when the two teams met on the field. The Cardinals finished the season undefeated last year.

Head Cardinal coach Michael Harvill was disappointed with the loss. “We still have some things to work on. The goal is to keep moving forward and improving,” he said. “Hardin County played a good, tough football game on both sides of the ball. We always expect a tough game any time we play Hardin County, and this year was no different. I congratulate them on their win.”

The Tigers also played host to USJ on Thursday night. The eighth grade team lost to USJ by a score of 16-0. The seventh graders defeated the Bruins by a score of 22-6.

Hardin County 26, Adamsville 14 (Eighth Grade)

The Cardinals put the first points on the board in the first quarter when Logan Barber scored on a run. Christopher Bernier added a second Cardinal TD on a 10-yard run, and Barber added two. The Tigers posted two touchdowns in the second quarter. Timothy Blakney scored on a 65-yard run and Trevor Bishop rushed for a 44-yard touchdown.

The Cards held a 14-12 lead at the half. However, the second half belonged to the Tigers who scored a touchdown in each of the final periods while holding the Cardinals out of the end zone. Blakney scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter, and Jayni Yarbro added the two-point conversion. Bishop ran in a 1-yard touchdown run in the final quarter to finish out the scoring.

Christopher Bernier led the Cardinals in rushing with 66 yards on 11 attempts. Bobby Moore rushed for 41 yards in the game. Bradley Parmely led Adamsville on defense with nine tackles in the game.

Hardin County 28, Adamsville 16 (Seventh Grade)

Cal Gobbell scored on touchdown runs of 70, 65, and 55 yards in Hardin County’s win against Adamsville. Logan Cole added a 28-yard run and also ran in a two-point conversion. Gobbell also completed a two-point conversion to Zach Holt Sidney Goldinger scored all 16 of the Cardinal’s points, posting two touchdowns and both conversions.

Hardin County 22, USJ 6 (Seventh Grade)

Cal Gobbell had a 35-yard touchdown run and a 30-yard touchdown pass in Hardin County’s win over USJ. Zach Holt caught the touchdown pass and also caught one of the two-point conversions for the Tigers. Logan Cole added a 35-yard run and a two-point conversion. Alex Hardin also had a 30-yard touchdown run in the game.
