Hardin Middle School splits first two games

The Hardin County Middle School football team opened their 2010 schedule with two games in the opening week. The Tigers defeated Collinwood in their first game of the season by a score of 32-24. They lost to Lexington last Thursday by a score of 12-0.

In the game against Collinwood, Timothy Blakney had three touchdown runs. Blakney scored on runs of 65, 62, and 60 yards in the game. Trevor Bishop added a 15-yard touchdown run and Brandon Luna contributed with a 35-yard touchdown run. Bishop added a two-point conversion run in the game as well.

The Tigers couldn’t get much going offensively in their matchup with Lexington last week. Lexington held a 6-0 lead going into the fourth quarter. Hardin County looked to be putting together a possible game-tying drive, but a fumble stalled their efforts to pull even.

Lexington scored one more touchdown later in the quarter to se the final score. Blakney had a big game defensively for the Tigers with around 20 total tackles, according to coach Freddy Essary.

Hardin County will play their first home game of the season tonight (Thursday). They will start with a seventh grade game at 5:30 with an eighth grade game to follow.
