Lady Cardinals post two big wins
The Lady Cardinal soccer team won their first match of the season against Wayne County. They also competed in the Lexington jamboree last weekend, finishing one match in a tie and winning another.Head coach Rebecca Ashe is pleased with her team’s performance early in the season. “We started the season off well with a win over Wayne County. The Lexington jamboree gave us practice for the tough district games coming up. Heat is making it hard, and we are hoping for cooler weather soon,” she said. One of their jamboree games had to be cut short due to the rising heat index.
Lady Cardinals 4, Wayne County 1
The Lady Cards kicked off their season with a win last Thursday. Kelsee Blakely scored the team’s first goal on an assist by Chloe Mullis, and Mullis scored again last in the first half. Darby Culver posted another first half goal before Elisabeth Churchwell finished off the team’s scoring in the second half. The team had 34 shots on goal in the match.
Lady Cardinals 1, Martin Westview 1
Churchwell scored the team’s only goal on an assist by Brittany Lambert. Goaltender Olivia Wright posted three saves, and Kristina Milford had two. The team had four shots on goal.
Lady Cardinals 1, Scotts Hill 0
Playing time was shortened in the second match of the jamboree due to the heat. Anna Johnson scored the team’s only goal, and the Lady Cardinals took 11 shots on goal.
