Local baseball players receive TBCA honors

Three local baseball players were recently named to the TBCA (Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association) All-Region team. Hardin County’s Justin Daniel was named to the Region 7 team. Adamsville’s Josh Carroll and Will Erwin were each selected as members of the Region 8 team. Players were selected throughout the region for their performance on the baseball diamond this past spring. There were eight teams selected throughout the state of Tennessee to represent each region. Each team consists of members from each of the three classifications.

Carroll also received even more recognition as well last week. The senior catcher was named to the Second Team All-State Team by the TBCA. All three classifications were combined to make up the first team and second team. There were only 54 players in the state of Tennessee that were named to the All-State teams.

Daniel finished his senior season with an overall record of 6-1 on the mound. He posted a 2.81 earned run average in 57 1/3 innings of work. Daniel struck out 80 batters and walked only 24 on the season. He signed with Northwest Shoals Community College to play next season. Carroll had a .417 batting average for the Cardinals this year. He had 13 home runs and had 56 RBIs during his senior season. He almost averaged a run per game with 42 runs in his 45 games.

Erwin posted a .418 batting average for the Cardinals this past spring. The Cardinal second baseman had four home runs and drove in 35 runs. Erwin led the team with 61 runs scored and 28 stolen bases last year in his junior season.
