Adamsville High School Athlete of the Year

Josh Carroll

Carroll had an amazing year all around, but one of the highlights was certainly being named Class 2A Mr. Football. He was also a driving force on his baseball team, which made it all the way to the state tournament. Carroll was the first Cardinal to ever be named Mr. Football. He was also selected to play in the Toyota East vs. West Tennessee All-Star Classic. He was named District MVP after picking up 149 solo tackles and 184 total tackles during his final season at AHS.

As a senior on the baseball field, Carroll had a .417 batting average with 12 doubles, 13 home runs, and 56 RBIs. He almost averaged a run per game with 42 total runs scored.

In the fall Carroll plans to attend Austin Peay University. He will play football for the school while earning a degree in the medical field.

Carroll also excelled in academics, being named All-Academic in football for all five years he played. He graduated ranked sixth in his class and was a member of the National Spanish Honor Society. He was also selected to the AHS Hall of Fame. His parents are Larry and Tammy Carroll.

Lani Rinks

Rinks was a dedicated athlete during her high school career, lettering in basketball for four years while lettering in softball and soccer for five years. She was named All-District in softball for three years. She finished her senior year with a .321 batting average and led the team with a .480 on-base percentage.

Rinks posted 229 points in basketball during her season year with a career total of 717 points. In addition to her achievements in sports, Rinks was salutatorian for her senior class. She finished as a Distinguished Scholar, completing a rigorous schedule of honors classes. She was also a Wendy’s High School Heisman recipient.

Rinks was president of the Beta Club and was a member of the Spanish National Honor Society. In the fall, Rinks will attend Middle Tennessee State University to major in biology or nursing. She plans to work in the medical field and wants to earn a masters degree.

From her experiences in athletics, Rinks learned the importance of working as part of a team. “The name on the back of the jersey is not nearly as important as the name on the front,” she advises younger athletes. She also learned the value of hard work. “If you want something bad enough, you will have to work extra hard, but once you make it to that goal, everything you did will be worth it,” she said. Rinks is the daughter of Stacey Rinks and Teresa Rinks.
