Lady Tigers win first-ever district tournament title
The Hardin County Lady Tigers softball team accomplished something never before done at Hardin County High School. The Lady Tigers won the District 13-AAA title by defeating Brighton in last week’s district tournament. According to coach Jason Dennis, last week’s district tournament title was the first in school history.The Lady Tigers picked up victories against Munford and Brighton to secure that district title last week. However, Hardin County saw their season come to a close with a 2-0 loss to Bolton in the region quarterfinals. The Lady Tigers finished the season with an overall record of 20-12.
Kristen Lackey, Beth Plunk, and Tatia Guinn were selected as All-District selections for their play during the regular season. Lackey was named the MVP of the district tournament for her performance in their championship run. Plunk, Karlie Roser, and Katie Terry were also named to the All-Tournament team for the district tournament.
Lady Tigers 2, Munford 1 (District Tournament Semifinals)
Hardin County got clutch hitting and solid pitching to propel them in last week’s district semifinal matchup with Munford. Katie Terry and Beth Plunk each picked up a two-out single to score Hardin County’s two runs in the game. Plunk’s single came in the fifth inning and proved to knock in the game-winning run. Kristen Lackey was the winning pitcher for the Lady Tigers. Lackey allowed no earned runs and six hits in the game. Lackey, Plunk, and Terry each picked up two hits in the game for Hardin County.
Lady Tigers 3, Brighton 2
Brighton took an early lead with single runs in the first and third innings. However, Hardin County pitcher Kristen Lackey wouldn’t bend the rest of the game. Lackey pitched out of trouble over the next five innings, but time and time again came away unscathed. She allowed only those two runs while scattering seven hits in her complete game victory.
Hardin County cut the lead in half in their half of the third inning. Tatia Guinn walked and later scored on a double steal to cut the lead to 2-1. The Lady Tigers took the lead in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Lackey that scored Taylor Wright and Cassidy Frazier.
Bolton 2, Lady Tigers 0
Bolton scored single runs in the first and seventh innings as they ended Hardin County’s season in the region quarterfinals. The Lady Tigers only managed three hits in the game. Kristen Lackey was charged with the loss for Hardin County.
