Tiger baseball team falls in district tournament
The Hardin County Tiger baseball team finished their season with a 4-3 loss to Dyer County in last week’s district tournament. A victory against Dyer County would have moved the Tigers to the district championship game and a berth in the region quarterfinals.Dyer County put together three consecutive hits in the bottom of the ninth inning to pick up the one-run victory against the Tigers. Hardin County rallied from a 3-1 deficit with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Joe Greer picked up a RBI single in the inning and Walker Vaughn drove home the tying run with a RBI on a fielder’s choice. Vaughn also drove home the Tigers other run of the game with a RBI single in the second inning.
The Tigers had scoring opportunities in each of the final two innings. Hardin County had one runner reach in the ninth inning and had two runners reach base in the eighth inning of play.
Corey Jerrolds (2-4) was charged with the loss for the Tigers. Jerrolds pitched only one inning in the game. Justin Daniel started the game on the mound. Jerrolds pitched over seven innings and allowed three unearned runs. Daniel struck out 11 batters.
Michael Davis and Justin Daniel were selected as All-District for the regular season. Daniel, Joe Greer, and Corey Jerrolds were each named All-District for the tournament.
The Tigers finished the season with an overall record of 18-18.
