Lady Cards’ end season
The Lady Cardinals picked up a win against South Gibson in the quarterfinals of their district tournament, but their season season ended when they faced Riverside last Thursday. The team ended with a 15-19 season record.Lani Rinks and Halley Beckham were each selected as All-District players for the regular season. Beckham and Kasey Martin were selected as All-District selections for the district tournament.
Lady Cardinals 1, South Gibson 0
The Lady Cardinals posted a run in their half of the first inning, and that was the only run of a tight game. “We were able to take advantage of four walks and an error for a win to get us into the finals of the losers’ bracket,” stated Cardinal coach Todd McGee. Halley Beckham (15-14) only gave up two hits, both infield singles, and struck out eight in the game. She and Kasey Martin each hit singles in the game.
Riverside 5, Lady Cardinals 3
The Lady Cardinals opened the game with a run in the first, but Riverside quickly regained the lead and held on to end Adamsville’s season. “We came out ready to play against a very talented team,” said McGee.
“Unfortunately, we did not drive in runs when we had a chance to break the game open. We left nine runners on during his game.” Halley Beckham (15-15) took the loss on the mound, but McGee believed she threw a good game. She scattered seven hits while striking out nine and allowing only two earned runs.
Hillary Combs hit a double in the game, and Alaina Davis and Madalyn Bruce had the team’s other two hits.
