Cardinals splits games in district tournament

The Adamsville High School baseball team split their first two games in last week’s district tournament at Parsons. The Cardinals picked up a win against Madison by a score of 28-16 in their first game. Adamsville then lost to Riverside by a score of 10-0.

The Cardinals were scheduled to play Middleton on Tuesday afternoon. With a victory against Middleton, Adamsville would play either Trinity Christian or Madison on Wednesday. They would need to win three games to reach the district title game. The top two teams in the district advance to region play. Adamsville is now 18-16 overall on the season.

Cardinals 28, Madison 16

Adamsville opened the game with a 12-run first inning to take the early lead. The Cardinals increased their lead to 16-3 after two innings before allowing Madison to score 12 runs in the third inning to cut the lead to 16-15.

After adding three runs in the third inning to give them a 19-15 lead, Adamsville opened up the game again in the fifth inning. The Cardinals got four straight home runs from Will Erwin, Josh Carroll, Bradley Melton, and Jalen Kendall in the inning. Carroll added a grand slam in the sixth to put the game away officially.

Erwin, Melson, Josh Chappell, and Kasey Hurley each had three hits in the game. Carroll, Kendall, John Reed Odom, and Eric Hammock each picked up two hits.

Jalen Kendall (2-3) was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals. Wayne Replogle was awarded a save by pitching at least three innings to finish the game.

Riverside 10, Cardinals 0

Riverside scored three runs in the first inning and added four more in the second to take a 7-0 lead early in the game. The Panthers added three more runs in the fourth inning to finish off the five-inning victory over the Cardinals.

John Reed Odom picked up the only hit of the game for the Cardinals. Adamsville had only one other baserunner in the game. Josh Carroll (4-1) was charged with the loss in the game for Adamsville.
