Tiger baseball wins three of six

The Hardin County baseball team had a busy week on the diamond last week. The Tigers split a pair of district games with Jackson North Side and Brighton. Hardin County lost to North Side last Tuesday, but picked up a win against Brighton on Monday. They also went 2-2 in a tournament in Middle Tennessee this past weekend. The Tigers are now 12-15 overall and 3-4 in district play.

Tigers 11, Brighton 2

Hardin County scored three runs in the first inning and never trailed the rest of the way. The Tigers expanded their lead to 6-2 after four innings and then added four runs in the seventh to close out the 9-run victory.

Justin Daniel (3-1) pitched a complete game in the victory. Daniel allowed only three hits and struck out 12 in his seven innings of work. The Tigers had five players pick up two hits in the game. Cade Smith, Michael Davis, Jordan Lambert, David Morton, and Dakota Lowe each had two hits for Hardin County. Davis and Morton each had two RBIs in the game. Morton and Lowe scored two runs each for the Tigers.

North Side 9, Tigers 6

Hardin County was hurt by nine errors in the game as North Side picked up a 9-6 victory last Tuesday. The Indians did not score an earned run in the game as each of their runs was a result of a Tiger miscue.

Joe Greer (1-2) was the losing pitcher in the game. Greer pitched five innings without allowing an earned run to cross the plate. Corey Jerrolds pitched a perfect inning as well for the Tigers. North Side scored four in the third and four more in the fourth inning to take an 8-1 lead. Hardin County scored three in the seventh to cut the lead to 9-6 and had the tying run at the plate. North Side recorded two strikeouts to end the threat and secure the victory.

Jordan Lambert was 3-for-4 to lead the Tigers offensively. Lambert also had a pair of RBIs in the game. Barker Burnham had a sacrifice fly in the fifth to plate another Tiger run.

Tigers 11, Dickson County 6

Hardin County banged out 14 hits to lead them to a victory over Dickson County last week. The Tigers scored two runs in the first inning and held the lead throughout the game. Dakota Lowe (2-3) picked up the win on the mound for Hardin County. Lowe allowed only three earned runs in seven innings pitched. The right-hander struck out four batters.

Michael Davis was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Hardin County. Mason Tidwell, Cade Smith, and Walker Vaughn each had a pair of hits. Barker Burnham drove home two runs for Hardin County in the victory.

Cookeville 14, Tigers 12

Hardin County took a 12-10 lead in the top of the seventh inning against Cookeville last week before the home team scored four in the bottom half of the inning. Hardin County’s Barker Burnham knocked in the go-ahead run with a run-scoring single, scoring Cade Smith to take an 11-10 lead. After moving up to 12-10, Cookeville scored four runs, including a walk-off two-run home run to end the game.

David Morton (0-2) suffered the loss on the mound. Morton joined three other pitchers on the mound in the game for Hardin County. Jordan Lambert was 3-for-4 at the plate for the Tigers with three RBIs. Barker Burnham was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Michael Davis and David Morton each had two hits. Davis also picked up two RBIs. Mason Tidwell scored three runs in the game for the Tigers.

Tigers 12, CPA 0

Hardin County’s B.J. Shutt (2-2) pitched a two-hit shutout in their victory over CPA last week. The Tigers scored four in the third and six more in the sixth inning to pick up the victory in five innings.

David Morton was 3-for-3 in the game with three RBIs. Joe Greer and Mason Tidwell each had two hits in the game. Greer scored three runs and also had two RBIs. Tidwell had a pair of doubles and also scored twice. Cade Smith had a 2-run home run in the game, and Shutt also drove home two runs in the 12-run victory.

Spring Hill 8, Tigers 4

Spring Hill scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a tie game to pick up the win. Barker Burnham (2-3) was charged with the loss on the mound. Burnham allowed three runs in two innings of work.

Jordan Lambert was 3-for-4 with a RBI in the game. Mason Tidwell was 2-for-4. Stephen Gobbell had two RBIs, and Cade Smith contributed with a solo home run.
