Tigers win one of three in district play

The Hardin County High School baseball team opened the season by winning one of their first three district matchups. The Tigers defeated Munford on Monday afternoon by a score of 12-0. They suffered a pair of losses to Dyer County last week to give them a 1-2 record in district play. The Tigers also went 1-3 in last week’s Warrior Tournament in Murfreesboro. Hardin County is now 8-9 overall on the season.

Tigers 12, Munford 0

Hardin County pitcher Justin Daniel (2-1) pitched a two-hit complete game shutout against Munford on Monday. Daniel struck out seven in his six innings of work. The Tigers scored five runs in the fifth inning and six more in the sixth to pick up the win. Joe Greer was 2-for-4 with a two-run single and a three-run home run. Michael Davis was 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run. Cade Smith and Dakota Lowe each picked up two hits in the game. Barker Burnham added a RBI double for the Tigers.

Dyer County 11, Tigers 6

Dyer County increased a 6-5 lead with five runs in their final two at-bats to pick up the win against Hardin County. Dyer County led the game 6-1 before the Tigers cut the lead to one run in the top of the fourth. The Choctaws added four in the bottom of the fifth to increase their lead to 10-5.

Justin Daniel (1-1) was charged with the loss. Daniel pitched over four innings in the game. Jordan Lambert and Joe Greer each had two hits in the game. Lambert, Mason Tidwell, Michael Davis, and Joe Greer each had a RBI.

Dyer County 12, Tigers 2

Dyer County scored nine runs in the second inning, and that proved to be the difference in the game. Corey Jerrolds (1-1) was charged with the loss for the Tigers. Michael Davis was 3-for-3 with a RBI in the game for Hardin County. Cade Smith was 2-for-3. Walker Vaughn picked up a RBI for the Tigers.

Tigers 5, Spring Hill 4 (8 innings)

Hardin County picked up two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game before scoring the game-winning run in the eighth inning. Mason Tidwell picked up a two-run single in the seventh, scoring Joe Greer and Dakota Lowe to tie the game. Cade Smith had a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to score Michael Davis with the go-ahead run.

Barker Burnham (2-1) picked up the win on the mound. Burnham allowed only two hits and no runs in over two innings of work. Tidwell and Davis each had two hits to lead the Tigers offensively.

Shelbyville 12, Tigers 2

Shelbyville scored 11 runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to defeat Hardin County last weekend. The Tigers were held to only two hits in the game. Joe Greer (1-1) suffered the loss on the mound. Barker Burnham picked up a RBI in the game on a sacrifice fly. Cade Smith drove home the other run with a RBI single. Michael Davis had the other hit for Hardin County in the game.

Columbia 7, Tigers 1

Hardin County was held to only four hits in their game against Columbia last week. The Tigers scored their lone run of the game in the first, but Columbia scored the game’s final seven runs to pick up the win. B.J. Shutt (1-2) was charged with the loss. Mason Tidwell, Jordan Lambert, Barker Burnham, and Stephen Gobbell each had a hit for the Tigers.

Wilson Central 8, Tigers 2

Wilson Central took a 4-0 lead after the fourth inning. Hardin County didn’t get any closer than four runs the rest of the way. Dakota Lowe (1-2) was charged with the loss on the mound. Barker Burnham had a solo home run for Hardin County. Mason Tidwell added a RBI double. Tidwell was 2-for-4 in the game.
