Cardinals start district schedule with three wins

The Adamsville Cardinals started their district schedule in a good way with three straight wins. The Cardinals picked up two victories against South Gibson last week and also defeated Madison on Monday afternoon. Adamsville also was 2-2 in their other four games last week. The Cardinals are now 8-8 overall on the year.

Cardinals 15, South Gibson 6

Adamsville scored seven runs in the first inning to lead them to a victory over South Gibson last week. Josh Carroll (2-0) was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals. Carroll and Bradley Melton each had a home run in the game for Adamsville. Carroll was the leading hitter of the Cardinals by going 3-for-5. Melton, Eric Hammock, and Will Erwin each had two hits in the game.

Cardinals 27, South Gibson 3

The Cardinals banged out 22 hits in their 24-run victory over South Gibson last week. Wayne Replogle (1-2) picked up the win on the mound. Adamsville also had four home runs in the game. Eric Hammock had a 3-run home run. Josh Carroll, John Reed Odom, and Jordan Hurley each had a 2-run home run.

Replogle was the leading hitter for Adamsville in the game by going 4-for-5. Hurley and Will Erwin each had three hits. Hammock and Jalen Kendall each had two hits in the game.

Cardinals 21, Madison 9

The Cardinals took an early lead, but Madison tied the game in the second inning. However, the Cards posted some strong offense late to claim the big 21-9 victory at Pringle's Park in Jackson, the home field of the Diamond Jaxx.

“We were really excited to get a win in district play against a good Madison team. It was fun to play at Pringle’s Park and become 3-0 in district play,” commented head coach Steve Lambert. The Cards scored five in the first and one in the second before giving up six runs to Madison in their half of the second inning. Their scoring was helped by a two-run homerun by Bradley Melton in the first.

“ The game remained close in the third. Adamsville added one run, but Madison took the lead briefly by posting two. However, the Cardinals added six in the fourth, five in the fifth, and three in the sixth while holding Madison to only one more run in the game. The Cardinals had 22 hits in the game while Madison only posted ten.

Senior Josh Carroll (3-0) claimed the win on the mound, pitching the first three innings. Drew Griswell finished the game to earn the save. Jalen Kendall and and Bradley Melton each went 4-for-5 in the game. Kendall had a double and a triple while Melton had a triple and a homerun. Josh Chappell hit two doubles, and Eric Hammock, Carroll, John Reed Odom, Robert McArthur, and Kasley Hurley each hit one.

Cardinals 7, Union City 5

Adamsville broke a 5-5 tie after three innings with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings against Union City. Jalen Kendall (1-0) was the winning pitcher. Zach Robinson finished the game and picked up the save for the Cardinals. Bradley Melton was 3-for-4 in the game with a home run and three RBIs. Eric Hammock had two RBIs in the game. Josh Chappell added a RBI single for the Cardinals.

Cardinals 16, Bruceton 0

Adamsville gained a 5-0 lead through three innings and then added 11 more run in the fourth and fifth innings to put the game away. Eighth grader Jacob Wallis (1-0) didn’t allow a run and picked up the win.

Jordan Hurley was 4-for-4 with five RBIs in the game. John Reed Odom was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Josh Carroll, Rob McArthur, and Hunter McSwain each had two hits. Josh Chappell chipped in with two RBIs.

Chester County 2, Cardinals 0

Chester County scored one run in the first inning and added another run in the fifth to pick up the win. Adamsville picked up seven hits in the game, but couldn’t put together a run. Drew Griswell (0-2) was charged with the loss in the game. Eric Hammock and Will Erwin each had two hits in the game.

Huntingdon 13, Cardinals 7

Huntingdon had an eight-run second inning to give them the early advantage in last week’s game. Adamsville cut the lead to four runs later in the game, but couldn’t get any closer. Jordan Hurley (1-2) suffered the loss in the game on the mound for Adamsville. Will Erwin and Josh Carroll hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning for the Cardinals. Josh Chappell added a 2-run home run in the second inning. John Reed Odom and Erwin each had two hits. Odom added two RBIs in the game.
