Cardinals win two in Classic play

The Adamsville Cardinal baseball team split their four games in last week’s Courier Diamond Classic. The Cardinals picked up wins against Giles County and McNairy Central. They lost to Hardin County and Summertown.

Cardinals 7, Giles County 6

Adamsville rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Giles County on Friday night. The Cardinals actually trailed in the game by a score of 6-2 after the third inning before scoring the final five runs of the game.

Hunter McSwain, Will Erwin, and Josh Carroll each crossed the plate with runs scored in the pivotal sixth inning. The Cardinals actually had more runners on in the inning, but the time limit elapsed, ending the game at 7-6 after six innings.

Josh Chappell was 2-for-3 for the Cardinals at the plate. Erwin and Bradley Melton each had a double in the game. Kasey Hurley (1-1) was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals.

Cardinals 5, McNairy Central 4

The Cardinals got a RBI single from Will Erwin in the first to give them the early advantage against the Bobcats on Saturday morning. Erwin and Josh Carroll each had a RBI groundout in the fifth inning to put the Cardinals on top 3-0.

After McNairy Central scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Adamsville’s Kasey Hurley picked up a RBI single to push the lead to 4-1. However, McNairy Central rallied for three runs to tie the game at 4-4 after six innings.

Adamsville regained the lead in the top half of the seventh inning. Bradley Melton picked up a RBI double to give them a one-run advantage at 5-4.

McNairy Central looked poised to tie the game in their half of the inning. The Bobcats had the tying run on base in the inning, but the game ended with the runner being called out at the plate to secure the victory for the Cardinals.

Hurley was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Cardinals to lead them offensively. Jalen Kendall (1-0) was the winning pitcher for Adamsville.

Hardin County 8, Cardinals 6

Hardin County scored seven runs in the fifth inning to defeat Adamsville last week. The Cardinals helped the Tiger rally by committing four errors in the inning. Adamsville had taken the early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning. Bradley Melton and Josh Chappell each had a RBI single in the inning. Josh Carroll added a RBI groundout.

Adamsville scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning on a two-run home run by Chappell. The Cardinals couldn’t get a baserunner on in the final inning as Hardin County picked up the victory. Cody Nix (0-2) was charged with the loss in relief of starting pitcher Josh Carroll. Carroll pitched the first four innings and allowed four runs.

Chappell was the leading hitter for Adamsville, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Kasey Hurley added a double for the Cardinals.

Summertown 13, Cardinals 2

Summertown scored three in the first inning and six more in the third to lead them to a victory over Adamsville. Robert McArthur had a solo home run for the Cardinals, and Josh Carroll had a double and a run scored.

Eric Hammock also added a double in the game for Adamsville. Wayne Replogle (0-2) was charged with the loss for the Cardinals.

Cool Stuff
