Lady Cardinals compete in Sports Plus tournament
The Lady Cardinal softball team played in the Sports Plus Tournament over the weekend, finishing with one win and two losses. The team defeated Jackson South Side in their first matchup but then lost to the same team in their second game of the tournament. South Side held a 1-0 lead until the third inning, when the Lady Cards scored one of their own. South Side quickly regained the lead, scoring two in their half of the same inning. However, Adamsville posted one in the fourth and two in the fifth to claim the win.
The Lady Cardinals had six hits in the win. Lani Rinks led the team at the plate, going 2-for-2. Halley Beckham claimed the win on the mound, giving up five hits.
JCS 6, Lady Cardinals 1
The Lady Cardinals had nine hits against JCS but were only able to drive in one run. Whitney Wrezniewski scored Adamsville’s lone run after reaching base on a fielder’s choice. JCS started out hot, scoring three in the first and two in the second before capping off their scoring in the fourth.
Madalyn Bruce led the team at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double. Halley Beckham was the losing pitcher, giving up five hits and striking out two.
South Side 7, Lady Cardinals 1
Adamsville opened with a run in the first, but it proved to be their only score of the game. Stephanie Combs scored after reaching base on a walk. The Lady Cards only had two hits in the game. Hillary Combs and Kasey Martin each had a single.
South Side scored one in each the first and second innings before adding three in the third and two in the fourth. Samantha Oaks took the loss on the mound, giving up 14 hits and striking out 5.
