Tigers split first six games of season

The Hardin County baseball team spent most of the week in Jackson last week playing in the Tomahawk Classic. The Tigers played six games in five days last week and finished the stretch with a 3-3 record.

The Tigers picked up wins against Lexington, Crockett County, and Jackson Christian School. They lost games to Jackson Southside, Dyersburg, and Trinity Christian Academy.

Hardin County was scheduled to play Adamsville on Tuesday night. They will open Courier Classic play on Thursday with a pre-tournament game against Summertown at 6:30. They will play Wayne County in the quarterfinal round on Friday at 3 p.m.

Tigers 4, Lexington 0

Hardin County got off to a hot start with two runs in the top of the first inning. Walker Vaughn led off the game with a home run, and Mason Tidwell added a RBI single to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage. The Tigers added single runs in the third and seventh innings. Barker Burnham had a RBI single in the third inning.

Corey Jerrolds (1-0) was the winning pitcher for the Tigers in the game. Jerrolds pitched a four-hit shutout in the game. He struck out four batters in the complete game victory. Tidwell was the leading hitter for Hardin County. He finished the game 3-for-4.

Tigers 9, Crockett County 2

B.J. Shutt (1-0) picked up the win against Crockett County. Shutt allowed only one earned run in over five innings of work. Walker Vaughn got the final four outs of the game. Michael Davis and Dillon Rooker each had a home run and three RBIs. Barker Burnham and Vaughn also had a pair of hits each in the game.

Tigers 3, JCS 2

Hardin County got solid pitching from the duo of Dakota Lowe and Barker Burnham. Lowe pitched the first five innings, but got a no decision. He allowed only two earned runs. Burnham (1-1) pitched the final two innings and got the victory.

After JCS took a two run lead in the opening inning, Hardin County rallied for single runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings. Corey Jerrolds had the game-winning hit with a RBI double in the seventh inning. Cade Smith had picked up a RBI single earlier in the game to tie the game at 2.

Jackson Southside 2, Tigers 1

Jackson Southside scored two runs in the seventh inning to pick up the win against Hardin County last week. The game was scoreless until the sixth inning before Hardin County’s Jordan Lambert picked up a RBI single. Barker Burnham (1-1) was charged with the loss. He came into the game in relief of starter David Morton in the sixth inning. Morton didn’t allow a run in five innings of work. Mason Tidwell and Lambert each had two hits for the Tigers in the game.

Dyersburg 6, Tigers 4

Hardin County gained a 4-3 advantage in the third inning after Dakota Lowe, Mason Tidwell, and Joe Greer each picked up a RBI. However, Dyersburg rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth inning that proved to be the difference in the game.

Lowe (0-1) was charged with the loss. He pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs. Greer also pitched three innings in the game. Barker Burnham was 2-for-2 and was the only Tiger with multiple hits in the game.

Trinity Christian 6, Tigers 0

Trinity Christian scored three runs in the second, two in the third, and one more in the fifth to pick up the win against Hardin County on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers were held to only two hits in the game. David Morton (0-1) was charged with the loss. Morton pitched the first two innings before Walker Vaughn finished the game by tossing the final four innings. Barker Burnham and Cade Smith each had a hit in the game for Hardin County.
