Cards compete in Jackson tourney
The Adamsville Cardinal baseball team had a busy week on the diamond with four games in the Tomahawk Classic in Jackson last week. The Cardinals picked up a win against Bolivar, but suffered losses to Liberty, USJ, and JCS.The Cardinals are now 1-4 on the season. They were scheduled to play Hardin County on Tuesday night and will start Courier Classic play on Thursday. The Cardinals are scheduled to play Wayne County on Thursday at 6:30 in a pre-tournament game. Adamsville will play in the quarterfinals against Summertown on Friday at 3 p.m.
Cardinals 6, Bolivar 5
The Cardinals built a 4-0 lead after two innings and then scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pick up the win. Josh Carroll (1-0) was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals. Kasey Hurley picked up a save.
Carroll also was the leader at the plate by going 2-for-3. Will Erwin added a triple for the Cardinals. Cardinal outfielder Wayne Replogle played a huge part in the win by throwing out a pair of runners at the plate in the game.
Liberty 4, Cardinals 1
Liberty scored two runs in each of the first two innings to take the early lead. Adamsville scored their lone run of the game in the third.
Will Erwin, Josh Carroll, Bradley Melton, Cody Nix, and John Reed Odom each had a hit for the Cardinals in the game. Nix (0-1) was charged with the loss.
USJ 8, Cardinals 3
USJ took a 7-1 lead after the fourth inning, and the Cardinals couldn’t get any closer the rest of the way. Wayne Replogle (0-1) was charged with the loss. Zach Robinson pitched two innings in relief.
Replogle and Eric Hammock each had a solo home run in the game for Adamsville. Will Erwin added a double for the Cardinals at the plate.
JCS 9, Cardinals 6
After JCS took a 7-2 lead after four innings, Adamsville rallied to pull within one run at 7-6 in the top of the fifth. JCS added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the game away. Kasey Hurley (0-1) was charged with the loss on the mound for Adamsville. Cody Nix pitched three innings in relief.
Bradley Melton, Josh Carroll, John Reed Odom, and Josh Chappell each had two hits in the game for Adamsville. Melton and Chappell each had two doubles. Will Erwin also added a double in the game.
