Crump Police Department moving to City Hall
Oct. 9– Constructed using temporary city employees and a volunteer, an addition to Crump City Hall to house police department operations is set to open next week.
After the Crump Board of Mayor and Aldermen previously rejected even the low bid of $17,812 as too high, Mayor Phyllis James suggested hiring employees on a short-term basis to do the job.
Two workers were hired at hourly wages of $12 and $7.25 per hour.
Alderman Judy Hollin said at the time that expenses needed to be kept under $8,000.
With the work now complete, materials cost approximately $5,173 and labor $2,876. The total project came in less than $50 over budget, according to city records.
Measuring 21 feet long and 12 feet wide, the wood-framed, metal-roofed addition was constructed at a cost of just $32 per square foot.
