Driver, dog survive deer-related crash in Pickwick
Nov. 29– A Mississippi man and his dog survived a one-vehicle crash in Pickwick that the investigating officer says could have proved fatal.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Henry C. Miller, 53, of Iuka, was driving a black 1991 Chevy S-10 pickup truck north on Tenn. 57-S when it veered across the center line. The driver over-corrected and the vehicle went off the right side of the road and traveled down a very steep embankment.
The pickup rolled over several times before hitting a tree and coming to rest upside down.
"I think that’s the worst I’ve ever seen and someone still be alive," said Trooper Wade Kirk, the investigating officer.
He said Miller was taken by a friend to Hardin Medical Center for treatment, and that Miller’s dog "was actually alive and rescued from the scene."
The trooper said Miller said he had tried to "dodge a deer."
No citations were issued in connection with the crash which was reported Sunday at 8:55 a.m.
