Wood stove burns home of elderly couple
Nov. 7– An elderly couple lost their home and belongings in a fire Friday possibly sparked by a wood stove, said Hardin County Fire Chief Melvin Martin.
Volunteer firefighters from Cerro Gordo (Dist. 4) responded to the scene of the 6 p.m. blaze at the 634 Ruble Drive residence of Arthur and Grace Fischer.
County Engine 12 from Savannah and a tanker from Olive Hill (Dist. 9) also responded, and were assisted by firefighters from the city of Clifton.
The structure made of two house trailers joined together was declared a total loss.
Martin said no one was injured in the incident.
