Car hits young boy on Pinhook Road
Oct. 12– A 9-year-old boy, Dalton Rich of Savannah, was seriously injured Tuesday evening when he was struck by a car on Pinhook Road.
According to Savannah police, Hardin County resident Katie S. Stacy, 74, said she was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle west on Pinhook near the intersection of Bain Road when the child ran out in front of her and was struck by her vehicle.
Police found no apparent skid marks at the scene of the 5:45 p.m. incident, but Stacy said she "hit her brakes as hard as she could."
Rich was transported by ambulance to Hardin Medical Center.
Another motorist, Bruce Young, said he was eastbound on Pinhook when he saw the boy trying to cross the street, stopped, and then witnessed the impact.
Police said other witnesses reported Rich had straggled behind a group which had already crossed the street. Members of the group said they told the boy to wait, but he ran across Pinhook near the Three Diamonds store and was struck.
The Volkswagen’s hood was dented and the windshield shattered by the impact.
Results of Stacy’s blood alcohol test were still pending Wednesday. No charges have been filed.
Information on the boy’s current medical condition was not immediately available.
