CCA inmates shocked at Clifton City Hall
Aug. 18– Power was knocked out to the entire area served by the Clifton substation when prison inmates touched an aluminum ladder to a power line this morning, according to Tennessee Valley Electric Cooperative General Manager Jerry Taylor.
"No one was killed" and the inmates were conscious when transported to the hospital. "We’re all saying our prayers for them, hoping it all turns out all right," he said.
Clifton City Manager Seth Sumner was not immediately available for comment to The Courier this afternoon.
However, citing Sumner, WSMV-TV in Nashville is reporting the three inmates from the South Central Correctional Center at Clifton were injured while working at Clifton City Hall.
The station said that according to a spokesman for Corrections Corporation of America, which manages the prison in Wayne County, the two inmates flown to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville were responsive when they left, and that a third inmate was taken to an area hospital.
Taylor said electrical service was restored within an hour.
